Build & Renovate: What is Charred Timber Cladding?
iDomus: Charred timber created by traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban charring technique – wood preservation with fire. It preserves timber and gives longevity to timber. Also, natural oil is applied with different colours. After this treatment, timber is not affected by any elements, it can be used in wet, cold, windy, hot weather conditions.

B&R: What type of wood and colors are available?
iDomus: Charred Timber Cladding is available in Larch, Nordic spruce, Accoya. The available colours are – Dark Black, Dark Brown, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Red Amber, Amber and Alligator finishes.

B&R: Are there different profiles and lengths, widths available?
iDomus: Yes, there are different profiles – shiplap, rhombus, PAR (rectangular). Standard widths are – 95mm, 120mm, 145mm. Available lengths – 3m and 4m.

B&R: What is the best way to apply cladding?
iDomus: We recommend applying cladding vertically or diagonally, but there is possible horizontal application.

B&R: Where can I see the cladding?
iDomus: We can post a sample box to you, contact us by email info@idomus.ie. You can see cladding stands in major construction exhibitions, follow us on social media to meet us at the show!

B&R: How can people order your products? How long is the lead time?
iDomus: Customers can order their cladding by contacting us by phone or email. Usually lead time depends on quantities, profile and availability, production lead time including delivery takes approximately four to eight weeks.

B&R: How to calculate the amount I need to clad my house?
iDomus: Usually, your architect or contractor can give quantities needed for your project. We recommend adding an extra average of 15proc. for waste, offcuts, overlapping. For the estimates, please forward your quantities by email info@idomus.ie.

B&R: What kind of maintenance is involved?
iDomus: Maintenance of timber charred cladding is simple. Cladding must be washed with simple water and soft brush and re-oiled with natural colour oil. Usually, the south side of the building might need more frequent re-oiling every 5 to 10 years.
