“I would have worked in this industry for a few years before we started our own company but during the last economic crash that company closed down and I decided that I would start my own company. Caroline was a florist and she closed her business and gave me a hand for a few weeks and never left,” said Liam Whelan.

“Since the pandemic began, things that are really popular are the various types of barbecues but hot tubs are a huge winner this year. Shaunas have also been big sellers for us. People are investing what was holiday money into their homes,” enthused Caroline Whelan.

As to the future of A Room Outside for Mr & Mrs Whelan?
“Our main hub is in Limerick and we have a hub in Wexford as well so we would like to open a couple of more franchises. We have a very good name and we want it to remain that way.

“We are always looking for new brands and products to stock. YETI is a new brand we have taken on. They are a fabulous range of luxury cool boxes. We have to continue selling unique products to remain unique.

We feel very positive about the future. We’re in a strong enough position with the business and it has gone from strength to strength all throughout the pandemic, concluded Liam and Caroline Whelan.
