- “There is so much light going through the downstairs and the finishes are all high end.”

Karina Reid of Maka Design is a qualified Architect and Urban Planner who has been working on large scale projects for more than 20 years. After moving to Ireland, Ms Reid fell in love with Interior Design projects and 3D visualisation. Here she discusses a project that she worked on recently.
The clients are neighbours of my Mother in Law and the Mother of the woman who owns the house now was best friends with my Mother in Law for more than 50 years. They knew I was an Architect and they asked me to work on the design for their home, said Karina Reid.
“I changed the entire downstairs of the house as the toilet was in the middle of the house and the kitchen was at the back of the house. I also changed a few things around when it came to the upstairs of the house. It was a very nice project to work on and the clients were lovely.
“There were a few issues on the site, due to the house being 50 years old there were a few surprises when we began working on the property but we got everything sorted.
We added a small extension to the kitchen and we knocked some walls down as well to accommodate sliding doors, moving the kitchen and creating a living room.
“The lady who owns the house was born there and when we spoke initially she told me that she loved the house but she wanted to change the house from her Mothers (house/ style) to her house after the renovation and the homeowners are really happy with the end result.
“I was so happy with how the project turned out as well as how the house looks completely different. There is so much light going through the downstairs and the finishes are all high end. I’m very happy with the final result,’’ concluded Ms Reid.
