Ideal Family Homes: 2020 Architects

2020 Architects, a Northern Ireland-based architectural firm, has been a prominent name in the industry for twelve years. Founded by three directors with backgrounds in high-design, the firm quickly made a name for itself, thanks in part to an early appearance on Grand Designs. This exposure, coupled with a strong social media presence, helped 2020 Architects rise to prominence, even ranking as the 18th most popular architectural firm on Facebook at one point.

A standout achievement for the firm is designing the 2023 RTE Home of the Year. This project, located in Antrim, is remarkable for its unique setting—an idyllic blend of sea views and rich woodland. While homes with sea views typically focus on the panoramic scenery, 2020 Architects took a different approach. They integrated the house into the woodland, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and architectural brilliance. The clients were delighted with the outcome, and winning the RTE Home of the Year award highlighted the firm’s ability to exceed client expectations. Notably, this award is submitted by homeowners, underscoring the genuine satisfaction of the clients.

2020 Architects’ success lies in their highly personalised approach to each project. Michael, one of the directors, emphasises that while their work may have recurring themes of softness and texture, each home is distinct. This uniqueness comes from their collaborative process with clients. The firm challenges clients to explore beyond their initial ideas, ensuring the final design is a true reflection of their dream home. This approach, though demanding, guarantees that the end result is a home that clients love and that stands out.
Looking ahead, 2020 Architects plan to expand their Roscommon office and develop a creative hub in their Northern office. Their commitment to pushing boundaries and creating unique, client-focused designs remains at the core of their practice, ensuring they continue to transform architectural dreams into reality.
