“We were recommended to our clients by friends of theirs for whom we had done a complete renovation project last year. Our clients visited their friends’ house and were so impressed with the quality of work that they got in touch straight away to discuss their project needs,’’ explained Jackie Tracey.

As to the design brief for this project?
“Our clients had fallen in love with the character and charm of this 1950’s dormer bungalow perched atop Howth head. However the property needed modernising!

It needed to be redesigned to accommodate busy family life. On our first call our client complained of the house being so cold! It was first & foremost on their minds to make their dream home warm & comfortable.

They also complained about the layout. They had a young family and the spaces weren’t working for them and they were in desperate need of a family bathroom for those busy evening bath times!

“Jackie Tracey Interiors was engaged to project manage the design and renovation of this quaint dormer bungalow into a well laid out, modern family home.

We partnered with Lark Rock Homes. on the renovation; they were the main contractor on site. We have worked with Lark Rock Homes for years now and have a great working relationship with them. Their quality of work is second to none, and their professionalism ensures projects always run smoothly.

“We also work closely with our recommended architects and engineers. This means we can provide a one stop shop for our clients. We demystify the design process and take the stress out of the build!

“In this particular renovation we redesigned the ground floor layout to create an open plan living space comprising kitchen, dining area, seating area, connected to the newly created family snug/playroom through bespoke pocket doors.

We demolished the warren that was the internal corridors plus small unusable rooms & transformed it into a stylish open plan space, beautifully connected to the garden through newly installed floor to ceiling glazing. The secret to an open plan design that’s both practical and beautiful is careful planning.

On this project we worked extensively with our clients to plan out the various zones within the newly created open plan space, in terms of function, interconnectedness & furniture placement. Every little nook and cranny was considered.

We also created a new family bathroom and redecorated the entire property to include new wall, window and floor treatments. Jackie Tracey Interiors also sourced and installed furniture and homewares to complement the scheme, enthused Ms Tracey.

Were there any difficulties or delays encountered along the way or did the project run smoothly?
“In spite of supply issues and a last minute change, we completed the project in six weeks! From construction through to cushions, the owners were back in their home, feet up having a cup of tea. Careful planning is the key.

We always work with our clients to ensure the process isn’t overwhelming for them, guiding them through the various steps, ensuring decisions are being made in a timely manner so as to keep within project scope and timeframe.

“The homeowners were thrilled with the result and to see how they now live in their redesigned home is reward in itself.

As to Jackie’s overall thoughts on this project?
“We were really thrilled with how it turned out! Throughout the design and modernising process, we were determined to maintain the character and charm of the property and we did just that! It really is so important to respect the architecture and integrity of the building when working on a property.

This dormer bungalow was filled with natural timbers and quirky architectural features, so we went with a style that enhanced the character of the property. Laid back textures and warm tones create a modern yet homely feel, not too twee but with just the right amount of sophisticated rustic charm,’’ finished Ms Tracey.
