Norman O’Brien and Sean Hennelly, both master carpenters, are the Directors and owners of OBH Kitchen Designers and Cabinetmakers.
They worked together while training as carpenters from 1998 to 2002, and set up OBH Kitchen Designers & Cabinetmakers in February 2002.
OBH Kitchens facilities include a comprehensive range of woodworking machinery, 3D computer design system, painted finishes to any colour of a client’s choice, and a display of doors, drawer & door fittings, work surfaces and splash backs in a vast range of materials, covering hardwoods, glass, granite, quartz, dekton and corian.
“We make everything of site in the workshop before delivering it to the customer and fitting. We’re in operation for 21 years and the business is going from strength to strength,” said Norman O’Brien.
“The kitchen is the one room in the house that gets the most use as it is a public space in comparison to a bedroom, bathroom or walk in wardrobe.
It is a space where the home owner wants to be able to entertain for family events as well as every day life, a nice kitchen is like a nice car; it is your personal choice and style.
People aren’t going out as much as they once used to as they are happier to entertain and dine at home and enjoy the area.
“Kitchen design is now based a lot around modern to contemporary styles with sleek design choices.
Every kitchen design is designed to suit the space and every design is different; no two kitchens will be the same as you have to work with the space provided as well as bring out the best design as possible to suit the needs of the clients.
The clients, space and the budget are the key factors when it comes to the kitchen,” he enthused.
“When it comes to kitchen design, it is important that the home owner works with someone who can design for the space you have and it is important to be decisive in your decisions as it is your kitchen at the end of the day.
Home owners are also getting braver with their design choices and colours also and they are going for a splash of colour in their blinds, stools or their island colour.
Most people are going with painted kitchens so in 10 years time, the kitchen can be repainted and it will be like a brand new kitchen.
The colour choices now in comparison to 20 years are phenomenal! Light and bright is the way forward, you want the kitchen to be a space you want to go into, not dark and dreary!” added Mr O’Brien.
