Story Highlights
  • "Dark blues and greens are going nowhere."
  • "I would work on one room in a house or an entire on everything from colour consults to the entire design."

Maura Mackey is an Interior Design Professional with an eye for detail who thrives on the ‘showhouse’ feel when designing or when up for sale or rental.

She also believes in a design needing to compliment functionality in a home and always bears this in mind when creating a new design for a client She fully believes the choices you make when deciding on how your home should look will have a documented effect on your emotions and perceptions.

Embedded in her ethos is a timeless yet classic modern/contemporary approach with an emphasis on attention to detail, luxurious practicality and a considered aesthetic that evokes an emotional response.

She is an Interior Designer known for outstanding service and an ability to work to all budgets whilst not neglecting design concept and delivery.

Maura Mackey Design services include interior design, home staging, new builds, renovations, commercial projects and colour consultation.

“As a teenager, my Mam would always buy me interior design magazines and that fed my interest. I built my own home in 1994 and it was a blank canvas when we moved in and then I did a two year night course in Interior Design whilst working for friends and family,” said Maura Mackey.

“I also did a retail display and design course and over the years I would have also kept up to date with the trends and upskilling online and then in 2019 I set up my own business where I began doing consultations and then COVID hit! ”

Throughout the pandemic, Zoom calls became very popular where I would work on one room in a house or an entire on everything from colour consults to the entire design,” enthused Ms Mackey.

“My business is new builds and renovations mainly as well as home staging and colour consultations.

“Dark blues and greens are going nowhere. Grey will still be around as people still love that shade and orange and the natural earth tones are beginning to come through.

People have realised now that furniture should also be sustainable in ways such as re-painting furniture etc. Accessories are like a piece of art whether it is a throw, a cushion or a picture and that is the beginning of your design.

Light is also such an important concept when it comes to your design and I recommend bringing as much nature into your home as possible. Biophilic design is such an important factor when building and renovating a home,”

concluded Maura Mackey.
