Father and son duo lighting up a storm throughout Ireland

BenDec lighting is a family business based in County Longford, where they create beautiful lights from old, new, reclaimed and recycled items. Established in 2019 by Ben O’Connor and his father Declan who is a qualified electrician with more than 25 years experience, between them they bring youth, age and experience to the business.

The origins of the business comes from Declan’s vast experience as an Industrial Electrician, who has always been inspired by lighting design and finding alternative uses for quality items. All lights are handmade using quality materials to create something unique & eye-catching.

“It’s absolutely brilliant working with my son and it is great to see that he has such interest in what we do,” said Declan O’Connor.

“Our emphasis is on making a quality, bespoke product. It’s brilliant to see what can be created using old, new and reclaimed items to design an original lamp.

“I’m an electrician by trade and the business is a new element to my profession. We will have an idea for a light and it can take a lot of work on design to ensure the finished piece retains its original feature but also can be used as a functional light .

I always have ideas for different designs of lights going around in my head and I am really enjoying the process as it is a lot different than the industrial maintenance work which is what I normally do. There is a huge amount of satisfaction when you make something from scratch; the more unusual the better!,” enthused Mr O’Connor.

Being a registered Electrician I am in a position to certify all the products we create.We’re based in Longford and we supply our products nationwide. Alongside our own designs we are available to work directly with clients to create bespoke lighting requests .

When it comes to the future of this rather unique company?
“We are expanding the business steadily as for us it’s more about quality than quantity. None of our lamps are mass produced.
