West and Green is a small business located outside the city in Co Limerick. Its owners, Maggie and Steve have been working independently for almost 20 years and together for more than 10 years making and designing kitchens and interiors.
“I’ve always been working in a creative industry and one day suddenly found myself gravitating towards kitchen design and before I knew it , I was obsessed with all things kitchens.
I find inspiration from the most inconspicuous things. It could be the view from a window, a ceramic dish or a handle and this inspiration allows me to find spontaneity in kitchen design,” explained Maggie Hogan.
We have made kitchens that are for period houses and apartments, new and old homes but essentially the kitchen is one that is designed for our clients.
We want our kitchens to feel like they belong to the client and to their home. Our kitchens belong to our clients and are made for our clients and that process is something that we are passionate about and proud to be part of.
“The process is where the magic happens. It’s a process of getting to know a client and finding out what inspires them and excites them.
To get a good design is to know the people who will use it and understand what they are all about.
“Steve made his first cabinet at the age of 12 which I just find fascinating. To have that level of interest and attention to detail and still have it today is just what every designer wants to be around; cabinet making is a craft in so many ways.
From working with Steve over the years we still find opportunity to make something unique for every kitchen and it’s this uniqueness that we love to bring to our clients. It’s selecting the right materials but also colour and functionality and of course it has to be beautiful.
Having all of these elements is everlasting when it comes to a kitchen,” she continued.
“We meet many clients who take on a new build and many extend or just need updating no matter the project it can be overwhelming. We make everything at West and Green; nothing is off the shelf, no kitchen is the same as the last and we love being able to bring that to a client
“We find the story begins when we make a site visit and we meet the home owner. How we move around our homes leaves a significant impression on us all. Having enough room to cook and relax is vital to kitchen design and the same thought goes for any space. “What we offer is a customised design service. When we meet a client at their home everything comes to life,” concluded Maggie Hogan.
