We want to grow the business but remain sustainable

In conversation with Stephen King of Synthetic Surfaces

Story Highlights
  • I went out on my own with my business partner Declan using really good quality products and delivering a maintenance free garden to anyone who is looking for one.
  • Everything we do is Sustainable Urban Drainage (SUDS) compliant as well which is a big thing with councils and so forth going forward.

After more than 20 years of combined experience in the artificial grass industry, Stephen and Declan saw an opportunity to provide a higher quality service at a fair price. They use their knowledge and experience to bring the best artificial grass and resin bound and bonded services to the people of Ireland.

After working in the industry in different countries, they have seen first-hand what works best in every environment, and they ensure only the highest standards and top-quality materials that are environmentally friendly are good enough for Synthetic Surfaces.

Their whole team is consistently providing and installing high-quality surfaces all over Ireland. They aim to exceed your expectations while enhancing your space by creating a safe and user-friendly environment that’s more than capable of achieving its goals.

The Synthetic Surfaces team is made up of professionals with decades of experience in the industry. We help the people of Ireland achieve the aesthetic, usability, and durability they need for a budget they can afford.
Synthetic Surfaces deal with every aspect of artificial grass and resin bound and bonded surfaces.

The variety of materials this company is experienced with means they can provide ideal solutions for residential and commercial clients, from driveways and patios to gyms and professional sports.

The Resin Bound Aggregate used by this company is produced in Ireland and the artificial grass this company uses is European.

Artificial grasses have greatly improved over the last decade. The monotone and rough plastics many people remember are a thing of the past. Modern technology and materials mean that the best artificial grasses are as good as the real thing, except much easier to maintain.

Low-quality fake grass is a thing of the past. The improvement in quality has seen an increase in the number of uses. Artificial grass is no longer just a viable alternative for many uses, but the preferred option for lots of people, including homeowners, local authorities and businesses.

Some of the many uses include: residential gardens, corporate indoor and outdoor spaces, childs play areas, pre-schools and creches, putting greens and recreational sites, primary and secondary schools, gyms and sports facilities as well as conventions and trade shows.

Resin bound and resin bonded surfaces are rapidly growing in popularity in Ireland. There are fundamental differences between the two types of surfaces that make choosing the best one for you crucial.

A resin bound surface will have a smoother finish, which can be ideal for driveways, patios and paths in a residential setting, or anywhere where the decorative aspect of the finish is important.

A resin bonded surface can also be equally as suitable in a different environment. Resin Bonded surfaces are usually more common in a commercial setting. Because they are less porous, they also often require soakaways and draining to be sufficient to prevent flooding.

The benefits of resin surfaces include; tough and durable, smooth surface, no loose stone, environmentally friendly, porous, wide choice of colours and styles, ease of installation, cost effectiveness, maximum grip along with less concern for decoration.

“Over the last 22 years I have laid artificial football pitches and gardens for other companies and two and a half years ago, I went out on my own with my business partner Declan using really good quality products and delivering a maintenance free garden to anyone who is looking for one,” said Stephen King.

“The business is going really well, the back garden was the new holiday for almost 12 months. Everything we do is Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) compliant as well which is a big thing with councils and so forth going forward.

Going forward with the business we are hoping to employ more people as well as becoming more self-sufficient and bring the resin and grass products to more people. We want to grow the business but remain sustainable, concluded Stephen King.
